    Mirrorless Cameras (MILC) and Lenses

Yup, this is kind of a toe in the water. If I'm happy with it I'll get a bunch of accessories for it and get the Mrs an R100. If I want more I'll get the R6II and all the accessories for it, and the Mrs will get this one ;)

    Mirrorless Cameras (MILC) and Lenses

Thanks for all the info. The 100-400 II and 180 Macro were the two big lenses I didn't want to replace, and they are big anyway. The 24/1.4 will depend a lot on whether I end up APS-C or FF. Time to research the new Canon bodies.

    Mirrorless Cameras (MILC) and Lenses

After looking at how little I could recoup on the used market by selling the Canon EF lenses I already have, I'm reconsidering selling them. My understanding of the situation is that, to make EF lenses work with a mirrorless body, I need to get either the EF-EOS R mount adapter and a Canon...

    VMware Workstation is now free

The main offices were always ESXi based, but remote locations frequently only had one PC, and if there needed to be server-ish stuff running it would be using VMWare Workstation on their workstation. The entire PC would be imaged to a USB hard drive daily, and that drive would be swapped out...

    VMware Workstation is now free

I used it only a couple years ago for someone's personal project that needed virtualization, but with a more user-friendly UI. The main failure at the time was not allowing VMs to auto-start on host computer startup. Most of the calls I got were because the PC had rebooted and the user hadn't...

I've read many places that the entry-level standalone GPUs are a suckers game already, with iGPUs beating or nearly beating them in most scenarios. The current AMD iGPU seems good enough for a lot of use cases, as seen by many of the handheld gaming consoles. The last several laptops I've had...

It might be if money isn't as much of a thing? I've seen really good performance from my rig even with the max power draw turned way down. It is certainly not performance/$, but performance/watt is reasonable, and if you do find yourself in a hurry at some point you can just turn it up. Your...

An advantage of the business grade stuff, even if you aren't a business, is that they give you the data. Antenna radiation patterns for each Ubiquiti AP. https://help.ui.com/hc/en-us/articles/115005212927-UniFi-Network-AP-Antenna-Radiation-Patterns

    Wi-Fi

*This next bit used to be true, and probably still is, but I haven't actually researched it in a few years* The most important thing the controller does is monitor the signal strength from each device connected to WiFi and actively push devices to the access point with the strongest signal. If...

    Wi-Fi

Ubiquiti can do everything, but it doesn't have to. The one I linked above just does Wifi. The one I have at home is a Dream Machine Pro. That is a dual-internet capable business-grade firewall with all the fittings, plus WiFi management, plus cameras and phones and door control and all kinds of...

    Wi-Fi

If your tablet tends to not leave the workroom, then everything mentioned in following paragraphs doesn't apply. Just about any AP will do, call the second network something different from your first, connect to it, and don't worry about it. My understanding and experience is that unless the...

We are totally off topic, but to answer JTRs question, the hot water from the city is an isolated closed-loop system. You control the flow rate of it through the heat exchangers at your place to heat your own water to your desired temperature. The city hot water is supplied at 80C+ and they want...

At our place and in most of the cities in Denmark we get hot and cold water from the city. The water traditionally has been heated by burning waste, but as there is less waste these days some cities are implementing massive building-sized heat pumps to heat the water. Once the hot water reaches...
